Industries ask Medina to fire officials involved in political campaigns

Santo Domingo.- The Herrera and Santo Domingo Province Industries Association (AEIH) on Sunday urged president Danilo Medina to fire the officials who’ve launched political campaigns for the 2016 election "because it’s doing great damage to the country and its Government."

"There are senior and medium ranked officials who’re playing off key and there’s no one getting their attention, this needs to be halted, because the economic situation requires civil servants involved with the Government’s work," said AEIH president Victor Castro in a statement.

Thus far the minister of Tourism, Francisco Javier García and Temistocles Montas, of the Economy, actively campaign for the ruling PLD party’s presidential nomination.

Senate president Reinaldo Pared also actively campaigns in the capital, but has yet to officially announce a bid.

Castro said it’s worrying that officials who’ve launched presidential runs manage taxpayers’ money. ”That’s inconsistent with transparency and damages the economy and the productive sectors in the long run."
