Cops, troops arrest 120 in sweeps to halt Santiago street crimes

Santo Domingo.- More than 120 people were arrested on the weekend during Military-Police searches in Santiago, where 30 vehicles, 71 motorcycles, nine guns as well as 27other weapons were seized.
The searches form part of the Government’s Peaceful City Plan, in which the soldiers support the police to help halt street crimes against citizens.
Military and police agents conducted sweeps through major sectors and thoroughfares to guarantee the population’s safety in the province rocked by a recent spate of crimes.
Checkpoints were set up along 27 de Febrero Av., the town of Gurabo, and Estrella Sadhala Av. and the Licey Highway.
