Gays, lesbians demand the government protect their rights

Santo Domingo.- The gay, lesbian, bisexual and transsexual community (LGBT) on Wednesday demanded Government policies that guarantee their rights and enact laws to penalize the stigma and discrimination they affirm suffer daily.
The heads of LGBT activist groups Deivis Ventura (REVASA); Rosanna Marzan, (DIVERDOM) and Francis Taytor (COIN) say they’re discriminated against in various areas of society life, especially jobs, justice, health and education.
In press conference, the activist said they’re forced to hide their sexual preference to keep their job and in many cases are fired when their gay or lesbian preference is revealed.
They said the same happens in health care when even doctors often mock them and complain that sex workers, transvestites, and transsexuals are murdered every year, while the authorities fail to respond to those cases.
They said studies conducted in the country found that 60% of homosexuals suffer discrimination at work.
