Accounts chief says audit finds problems in Electric Utility

Santo Domingo.- Accounts Chamber president Licelott Marte on Thursday said bookkeeping problems were detected in an independent audit of Celso Marranzini’s tenure in 2010, when he headed Dominican Republic’s State-owned Electric Utility (CDEEE).

"The electricity sector has problems, because there are audits made by independent companies, with the follow-up of the Accounts Chamber, and the power companies, that’s to say those which oversaw them, have issued an opinion of abstention, because they weren’t satisfied with the documentation which was delivered to them," the official said.

She said the Accounts Chamber has already contacted the relevant agencies for them to do the corrections, including recommendations to improve their accounting.

Marte spoke with reporters after signing an agreement with the National Treasury, to incorporate the Accounts Chamber’s resources into the Treasury Unified Accounting System (CUT).
