Brewster: U.S. Southern Command donates US$1.1M to fight traffickers in 2014

Santo Domingo.- United States ambassador James W. Brewster on Fri. revealed that the U.S. Southern Command has contributed US$1.1 million to fight drug trafficking thus far this year .

He said the donation included equipment and infrastructure, and the boat Castor, delivered to the Dominican Navy, as part of the patrol craft program.

Brewster, quoted by diariolibre.com, said the threats posed by organized crime range from illicit trafficking of drugs, people, weapons and other types of smuggling which he affirms weaken governments and society.

The diplomat spoke at the Dominican Naval Base 27 de Febrero, in a ceremony to hand over the patrol craft, to fight drug trafficking and illegal travel in the country, and now total five boats.
