Dominican Republic leader in ‘shock’ from death of 11 infants

Santo Domingo.- President Danilo Medina on Tuesday said he’s in “shock” and expressed outrage for the death of 11 infants in Robert Reid Cabral Children’s Hospital last weekend.

"The President has asked me to communicate to all you his state of shock. He has felt deeply impacted with this situation and wants to share the pain and solidarity with the families of these children, that their deaths have shaken our country," said Presidency spokesman Roberto Rodríguez Marchena.

He said the President named a commission formed by the heads of the Justice Ministry, the National Investigations Dept., the National Police, and other agencies, which will render a report on the tragedy.

Rodríguez warned of sanctions if the probe determines there was negligence. "We can assure you that through this Committee we will determine what happened, so this never ever happens in our country again."
