Dominican Republic’s top prosecutor gets support from US envoy

Santo Domingo.- Justice minister Francisco Dominguez and US ambassador James W. Brewster on Tuesday met for the third time and discussed the fight against corruption, just days after the Supreme Court ruled to acquit embattled Sen. Felix Bautista on charges he embezzled more than US$400 million.
In a statement the US Embassy said the two officials "discussed various topics of interest, including progress in the fight against corruption, judicial proceedings in cases of money laundering, drug trafficking, contract killings, among others."
It’s the third time the diplomat visits the leading Dominican Prosecutor. The first occurred in 2014, when voiced support for Domínguez’s anticorruption efforts and again in January, when he also backed the official’s initiatives against corruption.
