VP calls for greater participation of women in politics

Santo Domingo.– Vice president Margarita Cedeño on Wednesday called for greater participation of Dominican women in politics, after considering their presence is minimal in Congress and municipalities.

"While we have discussed several times the effectiveness of the women quota in the electoral law, no less certain is that, despite the existence of this legal provision, the women’s caucus in the Chamber of Deputies and the Senate, as well as their participation in elective local government positions, remains minimal," pointed out Cedeño, who is also a member of the Political Committee of the ruling Dominican Liberation Party.

For the VP, the upcoming electoral scene is a good opportunity to encourage women and their political empowerment, so they actively participate in the next electoral contest.
