Dominican-born NY senator arrested in rent-control rally

New York.- Prominent representatives of the Dominican community in New York condemned the arrest Wednesday of State senator Adriano Espaillat during a protest outside governor Andrew Cuomo’s office in Albany, to demand stronger legislation that protect low income tenants.

The coalition Tenant Power Alliance and Real Rent Reform Campaign organized the protest which led to the arrest of Espaillat, senator for New York District 3, which thousands of Dominicans call home, including Washington Heights and Inwood.

Around 200 people were also arrested in the protest in Albany In addition to other elected officials, who said they defend New York City’s rent-control measures.
