Pressure mounts on Medina to fire scofflaw officials

Santo Domingo.- JavierCabreja, former head of the civic movement Citizen Participation and economists Jose Rijoand Manuel Robles say president Danilo Medina should fire all the officials whofailed to submit their financial statements.
"We cannot letthis pass, it’s the responsibility of the authorities to punish in an exemplarymanner the officials who haven’t submitted their sworn statements of assets asestablished by law,” they said, quoted by listin.com.do.
They said it´s ashame that despite the country´s effort to pass the law to prevent illicitenrichment it´s the government officials themselves who violate it.
"The presidenthas to carry out his duty and dismiss them. The problem with this country isthe large deficit in compliance with the law," Rijo said, adding that thelaw is a mandate to pinish corruption and illicit enrichment.
