Deputy is only woman to ever seek Dominican Republic presidency

Santo Domingo.- The minorityparties Alliance for Democracy (APD) and Democratic Option (OD) on Wednesday announced a political alliance for the May 2016 election,with deputy Minou Tavarez Mirabal as presidential candidate for bothorganizations.

The pact makes Tavarez -an independent deputy- the only woman to ever seek the presidency of the Dominican Republic.

APD president MaxPuig said the parties agreed to join forces to motor important changes andimprove the precarious living conditions of the Dominican people.

During the event APDand OD senior leaders provided details on the breadth of the pact, including acommitment to ensure Dominican Republic´s democratic rights and the rule oflaw, and achieve the trust that citizens should have in their government.
