Workers federation against inclusion of foreigners in SS

Santo Domingo.– The president of the National Federation of Construction Industry Workers, Wood and Construction Materials (Fenticommc), Pedro Julio Alcantara, said that while the social security system leaves five million Dominicans without coverage, it affiliates over 289,000 foreign workers who lack sufficient wages to be included.

Alcantara described as demagogic the resolution adopted in this regard by the National Social Security Council (CNSS) and warned that it could bring down the entire system.

"We reject this as we consider it illegal and could lead to the collapse of the Dominican Social Security System," he pointed out, quoted by Diario Libre.

The organization president recalled that the construction workers have a special pension scheme, whether they are Dominican or foreigners, through Law 6-86 which creates the Fund for Construction Workers.
