Dominican deputies turn lower Chamber into a cockfight arena

Santo Domingo.- Tuesdayafternoon´s session of the Chamber of Deputies seemed more a cockfight arenathan democracy´s most representative entity, with one lawmaker going topless toprove he wasn’t ´packing´ a firearm.

Independent deputy JuanHubieres a staged a show by pulling off his shirt in the Chamber to reveal ahair comb, as the lawmakers were about to vote to approve a bond issue to addto the 2016 budget.

The shouting match was sparkedby ruling PLD party deputy Manuel Diaz, who had warned that Hubieres wascarrying a gun, after which the latter proceeded to take off his shirt.
