Colombia to extradite Dominican linked to journalist’s murder

Santo Domingo.- Justice minister Francisco Dominguez on Mondaystressed the importance of extraditing Dominican fugitive Matias AvelinoCastro, arrested in Colombia on charges of ordering the 2011 murder of LaRomana (east) journalist Jose Silvestre.

He said the process has begun to extradite Castro to theDominican Republic as soon as possible.

"We expect international collaboration in this case suchas we received on the recent extradition of French air security expert ChristopheNaudin, involved in the escape of the French pilots Bruno Odos and Pascal JeanFauret, sentenced to 20 years in prison in the Dominican Republic for drugtrafficking,” the official said.

Dominguez said Colombian authorities cooperate in Castro’s extradition.“This is a very serious criminal act which he’s charged with, and therefore consequencesshould be established.”
