Haitians clash with Immigration patrol in East region: Diario Libre reports

Santo Domingo.- A group of several dozen Haitians clashedwith Immigration Agency inspectors Wednesday morning, during a patrol in theTourist Boulevard of the East, La Altagracia province, diariolibre.com reports.

The Haitians apparently construction workers were on atruck traveling from Bavaro to Uvero Alto, where the men hurled stones at the inspectors,unleashing a ruckus for around 25 minutes, affecting local and tourist traffic.

As the melee ensued, a group of undocumented Haitians detainedinside an Immigration bus broke the windows and fled.

National and Tourism police officers arrived as backups forImmigration’s sweep and to apprehend the aggressors and escapees, near the Haitianslum of Hoyo de Friusa.

Around a dozen Haitians were arrested but a large group managedto escape into the bushes.
