Executive Power enacts Organic Law of the National Police

Santo Domingo.- President Danilo Medina on Friday signed the new Organic Law of the National Police that had been approved in the National Congress, which aims to strengthen the institutional framework, modernize the armed body and ensure greater transparency.
The new code provides the National Police of a simpler and more operational structure with a clearer "road map" when establishing promotions, retirement of its members and disciplinary actions within the agency.
The Law seeks to achieve a police career based on the best performance, with greater specialization in both roles within the police’s mission: crime prevention and prosecution.
The Organic Law also provides greater flexibility to reorganize the police stations and assigning more agents to those areas with a higher statistical incidence of crime.
