Rape of a minor: ex-official faces one year in jail to await trial

Santo Domingo.- The National District Office of the Prosecutor today Wed. will request one year of pretrial detention against former National Border Council director, Donni Santana Cuevas, who was arrested Tues. night, charged with raping a minor.

The former diplomat is being held in the jail in the Ciudad Nueva Courthouse in the National District, after his arrest on a bench warrant requested by the Justice Ministry.

Media pressure forced president Danilo Medina to fire Santana last week, after Justice minister Jean Rodríguez, acknowledged that a diplomat was being investigated for the sexual abuse of a minor.
