After ‘cover up’ attempt, official jailed in incest-rape case

Santo Domingo.-  National District judge Alejandro Vargas on Mon. ruled one year of pretrial detention against the former National Border Council director Donni Santana, accused of sexually molesting his 14-year-old stepdaughter.

The case spurred a scandal after it emerged that officials in Danilo Medina’s administration “tried to cover up the incident.”

Santana was remanded to the correctional facility at San Pedro de Macorís (east).

Upon entering the court, National District prosecutor, Yeni Berenice Reynoso, revealed that the minor’s mother is also being investigated in the case, but didn’t provide the details.

After Santana’s indictment Medina terminated him as director of the ambassador-level post he had held since 2015.
