Regulator shutters pirate taxi service in fast growing tourist town

Bayahibe, Dominican Republic.- The National Traffic and Land Transport Institute (INTRANT) on Mon. shuttered the offices of a taxi company that operated illegally in the tourist town of Bayahibe, La Altagracia province (east), where it impounded four vehicles.
The country’s transport services regulator hadn’t issued the authorization required by Dominican Republic’s Mobility Law, the Intrant said in a statement.
Bayahibe is one of the country’s fastest growing tourism town, a development spurred by its pristine beaches and tours to nearby Saona Island.
