US satisfied with Medina’s decision not to seek reelection

Santo Domingo.-  The US Department of State on Thurs. said that it’s satisfied with president Danilo Medina’s decision “not to seek an extension of the constitutionally established periods.”

In a brief tweet by the US embassy, Secretary of State Mike Pompeo states that in his decision Medina “shows confidence in the will of the people and good tidings for the future of the country.”

On Monday Medina cleared lingering doubts in a speech in which he said that, although he was tempted to seek a third period at the insistence of many sectors, “there are rules and principles that transcend the work of a man or of a government,” and was his responsibility to “preserve them
