Dominican Army shutters Haiti border amid turmoil

Santo Domingo.- Foreign minister Miguel Vargas confirmed on Wednesday that the border with Haiti was closed amid the turmoil stemming from that nation’s fuel shortage.

In that regard Dominican Army commander Estanislao Gonell, said the border has been “sealed” for now and they have total control of the area.

“We have absolute control of our entire border strip with Haiti, to prevent not only the passage of illegals, but also any illegal actions that may affect our peace and national sovereignty,” said Gonell.

“Anyone who tries to enter the Dominican Republic illegally at any border point will be immediately arrested by the military and returned to their country.”
