Dominican Republic posts fewest femicides in 14 years: AG

Santo Domingo.- The Attorney General’s Office (PGR) revealed that in 2019 the Dominican Republic posted the lowest rate of femicides during the last 14 years (2005-2019), with 6 cases reported to November.

It stressed that femicides fell 22% and continues with the same downward trend by 25% this year, “as a result of the impact that the actions of the National Plan Against Violence of Gender.”

“This implies a clearing of the macho culture, a change of attitude and an education process, the results of which are gradually obtained, but, the important thing is that it still constitutes a pending challenge, and the favorable effects begin to have as these statistics show with the decrease in those unfortunate acts perpetrated by members of our society.”
