Eerie calm grips the country’s busiest shopping district

Santo Domingo.- An eerie calm on Thursday has gripped Avenida Duarte, Dominican Republic’s busiest shopping district and its entire surroundings of shuttered businesses.

The otherwise bustling artery abides by the measures announced by President Danilo Medina, that took effect from 6am today to prevent the spread of the coronavirus.

El Nuevo Diario reports that all establishments, both formal and informal, are totally closed.
