Windstorm in Salcedo destroys roofs of several houses

SALCEDO—A windstorm preceded by heavy downpours left about seven houses without roofs in several popular sectors of this municipality. It also left more than 70 percent of the city’s urban area without electricity for several hours, and tree trunks and other objects caused the breakage of several of the power cables.
Immediately, the government authorities and the mayor of this municipality, Juan Ramón Hernández, accompanied by the deputy Félix Hiciano, visited the affected families, collected data on the damages caused, and gave them food rations through the Social Plan of the Presidency.

The heavy rains, becoming increasingly common in this distinction, began after 4 p.m. last Saturday. Minutes later, a gale hit the communities of Clavijo, El Chucho, Rabo Duro, and the Los Cocos sector of the urban area of Salcedo.

RS04.Immediately, Mayor Juan Ramon Hernandez, together with brigades of the mayor’s office, Fire Department, Civil Defense, and volunteers, proceeded to remove the debris left by the phenomenon amid torrential rains that, for several minutes, alarmed the population and created panic in these sectors.

“As soon as we were able to leave our houses, we proceeded to do what we were called to do, to come to the aid of our communities, because we immediately instructed all the members of the various entities under our command, so that together we all work in favor of those who at this moment have their houses without roofs,” said Juan Ramon Hernandez.

Regarding the damages, a commission is working on elaborating a detailed report to make the necessary repairs to the houses of the affected families.

According to the deputy director of Civil Defense, Andrea Ureña, accompanied by the operations manager Joanny Carela and brigade manager Alexis Baez during the phenomenon, among the affected communities are El San Jon and Alto de Los Rojas. Several trees were knocked down by the phenomenon, leaving the areas of Alto de Piedra, Palmar, and Palmarito, among others, where immediately the brigades above of both this entity and the Fire Department and personnel under the command of Mayor Juan Ramón Hernández removed the debris managing to restore such communications in the indicated roads.

Six houses were damaged in the urban area, specifically in the sectors of Los Cocos, Rabo Duro, and San Jon, respectively. The occupants had to be taken to relatives and close friends.
