Foreign Ministry informs African nations of human remains found
Santo Domingo.- The Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MIREX) has informed Senegal and other African nations about the discovery of 14 male skeletons found along the coast of Espaillat province yesterday. Documents recovered from the boat indicate that the deceased were from the African continent, and several state agencies are now investigating the case.
The investigation is being led by the Public Prosecutor’s Office in Moca, Espaillat province, in coordination with the Dominican Navy, the National Directorate of Drug Control, the Police, Civil Defense, and other agencies. Prosecutor Yorelbin Rivas stated that the investigation is ongoing and has deeply impacted the local community.
Among the items found near the remains were twelve packages of suspected cocaine, several Senegalese identity documents, 50 cell phones, a satellite phone, a GPS, and 40 backpacks. The bodies have been transferred to the National Institute of Forensic Sciences to determine the exact causes of death and how long the vessel had been adrift.
