Storm Ernesto to bring showers but no direct impact on Dominican Republic
Santo Domingo.- Indomet has reported that Tropical Storm Ernesto is currently located approximately 565 kilometers east-southeast of San Juan, Puerto Rico, with maximum sustained winds of 65 kph. The storm is moving west at around 31 kph, but its speed is expected to gradually decrease as it shifts west-northwest over the next 24 hours.
Ernesto is forecast to impact Puerto Rico tonight before moving further north, likely avoiding a direct hit on the Dominican Republic. However, weather forecasts indicate isolated showers, thunderstorms, and gusty winds in areas like Elías Piña, Independencia, San Pedro de Macorís, and parts of Greater Santo Domingo due to increased wind speeds and local effects.
Indomet also warned of dangerous waves developing later in the afternoon along the northeastern and eastern Atlantic coasts. By nightfall, cloud bands associated with Ernesto’s expansive cloud field are expected to begin affecting the southeastern and northeastern provinces.
