Dominican Army detains 343 Haitians and seizes over 700,000 contraband cigarettes
Santo Domingo.- The Dominican Republic Army detained 343 Haitians with irregular immigration status during operations conducted over the last 72 hours in the border provinces of Dajabón and Valverde. The detentions took place in various municipalities and sectors within the jurisdiction of the 10th Infantry Battalion and other local detachments, including La Vigía, Loma de Cabrera, and Santiago de la Cruz.
The detained individuals were handed over to the General Directorate of Migration (DGM) for further processing in accordance with the law. In addition to the immigration crackdown, the Army intercepted 707,800 contraband cigarettes being smuggled into Dominican territory. Through intelligence operations, two vehicles were stopped in Monción and Mao, resulting in the seizure of illegal merchandise.
The contraband included 446,400 cigarettes found in a white Nissan Titan pickup in Monción and another 240,000 units of Capital brand cigarettes intercepted in a Ford F150 truck in Laguna Salada, Valverde province. The confiscated goods and vehicles were transferred to the 4th ERD Infantry Brigade.
