Abinader urges unified effort to Dominicanize construction workforce

Santo Domingo.- President Luis Abinader participated in the launch of “Construyendo RD” (Building RD), a platform developed by the Dominican Association of Housing Builders and Promoters (ACOPROVI). This initiative aims to address the demand for skilled labor in the construction sector while advancing the government’s goal of Dominicanizing the workforce.

The platform connects workers with job opportunities, offers access to financing, scholarships, and technical training incentives, and fosters professional growth for local workers. It aligns with national efforts to reduce reliance on foreign labor by equipping Dominicans with specialized skills to strengthen their competitiveness.

Abinader praised ACOPROVI’s commitment to this effort, emphasizing its importance not only for the construction sector but also for agriculture and other industries. He reiterated his administration’s focus on national security and workforce Dominicanization, asserting the government’s priority to safeguard the country amidst instability in neighboring Haiti.

I don’t think he fully understands his people. If his people were as willing to do the work as the Haitians are, there wouldn’t be a market for Haitians.

Rather than inticing Dominicans to do something they do not want to do, why not create working visa programs to have Haitians legally in the country.

Your argument makes a lot of sense. There is a market for cheap labor that Dominicans do not want to return to. They just need to make it legal.
