Ministry of Culture urges radio stations to highlight Bachata on December 11

Santo Domingo.- The Ministry of Culture issued Resolution No. 28-2024, urging Dominican radio stations to dedicate a greater proportion of their programming to bachata on December 11. This initiative celebrates the Day of Promotion and Dissemination of the Bachata Musical Genre, emphasizing its significance to Dominican cultural identity.
The resolution highlights bachata as a key element of the nation’s heritage, underscoring the need to preserve and promote it for future generations. It mandates radio stations to amplify its reach and assigns the Vice Ministry of Cultural Heritage to organize events such as colloquia and activities to foster appreciation and awareness of bachata as a musical cultural legacy.
Declared musical cultural heritage of the Dominican Republic by Law 25-15 in 2015, bachata gained international recognition when UNESCO designated it as Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity in 2019. This year’s resolution, signed by Culture Minister Milagros Germán, reaffirms the genre’s pivotal role in Dominican identity and strengthens efforts to honor its legacy.
