JCE to begin discussions with political parties on Electoral Card renewal

Santo Domingo.- The Central Electoral Board (JCE) will begin engaging political party leaders on the upcoming Identity and Electoral Card renewal project, set to commence this year. Starting Monday, January 20, the JCE Plenary, along with its technical committee, will visit political party headquarters to present the project and gather input from senior party leadership.
The first meeting is scheduled with the Modern Revolutionary Party (PRM) at 4:00 p.m. on January 20. Subsequent sessions will be held with the Dominican Liberation Party (PLD) on January 22 at 10:00 a.m. and the Fuerza del Pueblo (FP) party on January 27 at 11:00 a.m. Additional meetings with other political organizations will follow in a second phase, either individually or in groups.
The JCE will also engage civil society, media, business groups, and other stakeholders to ensure widespread awareness of the card renewal process. The meetings will feature JCE President Román Andrés Jáquez Liranzo, other board members, and the general secretary, supported by the technical committee comprising directors of key departments, including Identification, Information Technology, and Electoral Registry.
This helps Dominicans with ID Cedula cards. But what about the tens of thousands of poor Dominicans that do not have a card. How can the JCE streamline the process to get more people registered ? Each community in the D.R. knows who is an authentic Dominican . Allow those community JCE’s to get involved to authorize new holders of cards. Is it not more important to help people out of poverty by getting them an identity card ?
