Government will begin to reorganize the country’s tourist poles

Part of the legacy that the government and the minister of tourism want to leave the country is the reorganization of the tourist hubs, which is why in seven- or eight-days President Luis Abinader and David Collado will go to Bávaro-Punta Cana to reorganize everything from transit to security and implement the land-use plan.
Making the announcement as a scoop to the journalists who covered the events of the International Tourism Fair (Fitur 2025), Collado explained that President Abinader told him that, “I’m not leaving Bávaro-Punta Cana until we finish and come out with a clear and precise agreement.” They will do the same, he added, in Samaná, Las Terrenas, Puerto Plata and Bayahibe.
In this sense, Collado affirmed that the government has a clear vision of renovating the infrastructure, because that provides security and makes tourists leave the hotels and consume in the cities, which translates into the emergence of new restaurants, businesses and opportunities.
“We have a clear, comprehensive vision of what we want to do with the development of tourism in the country,” Collado said.
Asked about the destinations Jarabacoa and Constanza, Collado explained that they are carrying out infrastructure interventions in that area: in Constanza there is now a road more than 400 kilometers long, while in Jarabacoa work is being done on land use planning.
“Jarabacoa is growing strongly, and we don’t want it to become disorganized, to have disproportionate and unplanned growth,” said Collado.
Having said that, he explained that these poles have not been included in the destination brand because those presented on Tuesday (Santiago, Costa del Ámbar, Miches, Samaná and Punta Cana) were the product of work with the clusters and have a greater flow of tourists. He went on to say that they will work with Jarabacoa and other destinations later.
In other news, he announced that he will relaunch the campaign that was carried out in 2022 to promote domestic tourism and that he will promote an alliance with the banks and Asonahores to offer a special rate to Dominicans in the low season, from May to September.
Thank God they’re doing this. This is very MUCH needed.
The idea of organising infrastructure
eg lighting on punta Popy las terrenas malecón a small investment would put lights every 5 meters .
Many of the side roads are in disrepair due to rains and heavy traffic !!!
Street parking needs addressing cars and motos
Vat rates on tourism business needs to be 8/9 % on purchases and bills if you want to reach 20mil tourists by 2030
A policy on el catey needs to be addressed immediately this investment with a capicity of 1.5 mil passengers only received 150,000 2024
Also support airlines with landing fees and costs 200usd flights plus baggage fees will promote short term travel NY Boston Miami Canadian flights also
European airlines need support also with the open air agreements hopefully that will see traction !!!

Nominate neighborhood spokesperson s
Hope they pick up the garbage first.. what an embarrassment.. also the resorts telling tourists it’s not safe to leave.. solve those issues first..
Need walkable pedestrian sidewalks and road improvements in and around the resorts.
Everywhere you go the resorts advised tourists no to wonder off the hotel for safety issues not only in the Dominican Republic.
Great ideas, hopefully it will increased guarantee safe stay for all. May God bless the Dominican Republic. I love the Dominican Republic.
The government should provide some examples of the reorganization, i.e., paint curbs, make pedestrian bridges over roads, permanently fix semaforos (like the bent sagging one at the Coco Loco crossroads), widen roads, add more traffic police, install full time lifeguards at all beaches, and etc.
