Few people at tag renewal points in Greater Santo Domingo

Santo Domingo — Early yesterday morning, a tour carried out by the newspaper HOY showed a low influx of people in the establishments of Greater Santo Domingo where the renewal of the vehicle tag is being carried out.
In places such as the Cibao Association of the La Sirena Multicenter and in shopping malls such as Megacentro and Sambil, few people were observed lining up to complete the process.

The General Directorate of Internal Taxes (DGII) reported that, as of 5:00 p.m. on January 31, a total of 1,702,009 tags had been renewed, which has generated a collection of RD$2,835,408,000. This figure represents more than 90% of the goal set for the 2024-2025 season.
According to the entity, 1,893,024 vehicles were eligible to renew their tag in this period, with an estimated collection of RD$3,137,673,000.
Late fees for not renewing on time
Drivers who did not renew their tag within the established period will face financial penalties. The established surcharges are as follows:
- RD$2,000.00 for vehicles that did not renew before January 31, 2025.
- RD$2,100.00 for those who did not renew the 2023-2024 tag (RD$2,000.00 for the sanction and RD$100.00 for administrative cessation).
- RD$3,100.00 for vehicles that did not renew in the 2022-2023 season or earlier (RD$3,000.00 for the sanction and RD$100.00 for administrative cessation).
