Dominican Republic deports over 31,000 undocumented migrants in January

Santo Domingo.- The General Directorate of Migration (DGM) conducted 266 operations in January, deporting 31,213 undocumented foreigners, mainly Haitians, as part of efforts to reinforce security and control migration. This included 16,293 deportations and 14,920 repatriations, with authorities ensuring compliance with human rights protocols.

The majority of deportations occurred from detention centers in Haina (8,584), Dajabón (5,380), and Santiago (2,329), while repatriations took place through border points such as Elías Piña, Jimaní, and Pedernales. The crackdown spanned multiple provinces, including Greater Santo Domingo, San Cristóbal, La Altagracia, and Montecristi.

Additionally, the DGM dismantled human trafficking networks and prosecuted 17 individuals for violating migration laws. These actions align with President Luis Abinader’s mandate to curb irregular migration and enhance border security.

We are a third world country, the US Struggles to deport 3m people, which is just 1% of their population, the Dominican Republic has Deported over 270k last year, which is 3% of the population. We are doing progress, you can’t expect a third world country to deport millions a year. And I agree on the other part, they should stop reproducing in Dominican Soil. Out Hospitals are filled to the brim with Haitians, leading to our medical system to suffer greatly.
