Truck drivers reject Malecón traffic restrictions in Santo Domingo

Santo Domingo.- Truck drivers in Santo Domingo have voiced their opposition to a new regulation that prohibits them from traveling along the Malecón, arguing that it disrupts their work and delays deliveries to the docks. Drivers say the restriction hampers logistics and impacts their daily operations.

Starting Monday, officers from the General Directorate of Transit and Land Transport were stationed at key points on George Washington Avenue to enforce the ban, which took effect on January 31.

Truck drivers are calling for the authorities to reconsider the ban or offer an alternative solution that won’t interfere with their work. The restriction is supported by the National Institute of Transit and Land Transport (Intrant) and the Mayor’s Office of the National District.

A fine may work for some. However, a heavy green grua parked within sight is a good deterrent.

Why does the truck driver care about this? He is getting paid just to do his job.
