Arrest of undocumented Haitians in Montecristi and San Juan de la Maguana

Another group of undocumented immigrants was detained walking through rural areas to avoid military checkpoints.
As a follow-up to the migration interdiction operations that are being carried out in different provinces, the Army of the Dominican Republic detained several groups of men and women of Haitian nationality in irregular migratory status in the provinces of Montecristi and San Juan de la Maguana.
A first group was arrested in the coastal area of Montecristi, where Army troops intercepted 17 Haitian nationals without documentation who were traveling on 05 motorcycles near the Guallo sector.
Another driver was sent to court for smuggling undocumented immigrants on a bus in San Juan de la Maguana.
In another operation in San Juan de la Maguana, members of the ERD stopped a red Hyundai bus with license plate I-081889 driven by Juan Pablo de León Rosario. The bus was transporting 18 Haitian citizens with irregular immigration status.

Army patrols detected another 36 Haitian nationals while they were moving on foot through rural areas, evading checkpoints and the Manga Detachment in Montecristi. The group, consisting of 30 men and six women, was arrested and taken into military custody.
The 71 foreigners detained in different operations will be handed over to the General Directorate of Migration (DGM) for the repatriation process, while the bus and motorcycle driver will be handed over to the Public Prosecutor’s Office for the corresponding legal purposes.
