Santo Domingo.- The Dominican Alliance Against Corruption (ADOCCO) welcomed the Dominican Republic’s progress in the 2024 Corruption Perception Index (CPI), released by Transparency International. The country scored 36 out of 100, marking a one-point improvement from 2023, when it scored 35. The Dominican Republic moved from 108th to 104th place among 180 countries evaluated, reflecting significant progress in combating corruption.
The CPI ranks countries based on perceived public sector corruption, using data from 13 external expert sources. While Denmark scored the highest (90), the global average remained at 43, with over two-thirds of countries scoring below 50. Over the past five years, the Dominican Republic was one of seven countries to significantly improve their CPI score. Despite the global improvements, the report emphasized that corruption levels remain extremely high, posing a critical barrier to global challenges like climate action.
This marks a steady increase for the Dominican Republic, which has improved its CPI score from 2010’s 3.0 to 36 in 2024, showing a gradual commitment to fighting corruption and improving governance.
104th place among 180 countries? We still have a lot of work to do.
That’s nice and all, but it’s like going from an F to a D from a report card. Good improvement, but should’ve done a lot better.
Some improvement is better than none, the important thing is that the country is starting to move the needle and heading in the right direction.
