Santo Domingo.- Residents of the street between Lope de Vega and Roberto Pastoriza avenues in Ensanche Naco have expressed concern over the General Directorate of Passports’ decision to lease a building in the area for its offices. The building, set to cost a monthly rent of approximately 9.7 million pesos, has been met with criticism for its potential impact on local traffic and quality of life.

In a letter to Listín Diario director Miguel Franjul, signed by several local residents, they argue that the office’s location would disrupt the neighborhood’s tranquility and safety. The building’s placement between Tiradentes and San Martín de Porres avenues is said to exacerbate already difficult traffic conditions, making it challenging for residents to navigate, especially in emergencies.

The community has appealed to the Ombudsman, the National District Mayor’s Office, and the Passport Office to reconsider the decision, emphasizing that setting up a public office in such a congested, residential area would negatively affect residents’ daily lives.
