Catuano Pier renovated to boost tourism and local economy

La Romana.- The Dominican Port Authority (APORDOM) inaugurated the renovated Catuano tourist pier on Saona Island, La Romana, with an investment of RD$4,528,291.44  million. This infrastructure upgrade aims to enhance tourism, create jobs, and strengthen the local economy.

APORDOM’s executive director, Jean Luis Rodríguez, led the ceremony alongside Environment Minister Paino Henríquez and other officials. Rodríguez emphasized the government’s commitment to improving port infrastructure, including plans for additional enhancements in La Romana. Henríquez urged the community to protect the island and its national park.

The renovations include a 160.35 m² treated pinewood jetty, enhanced safety features, LED lighting, and upgraded docking equipment. This project is part of a national initiative to modernize fishing docks, ensuring long-term sustainability for coastal communities.
