Nuria Piera denounces disinformation and defamation in digital media

Santo Domingo.- Journalist Nuria Piera criticized certain digital media outlets, calling them a “cesspool” for spreading misinformation, manipulation, and blackmail. She expressed solidarity with journalists Edith Febles, Altagracia Salazar, Marino Zapete, Huchi Lora, and Mariasela Álvarez, who have been falsely accused of receiving foreign funds.

Piera urged authorities to regulate these platforms and called on the government to refine its criteria for allocating public funds to media outlets. She also emphasized the need for stronger legislation to combat defamation on social media, highlighting the risks posed by the lack of legal oversight.

Regulation for the questionable digital outlets is a slippery slope. “Who” defines what is disinformation? “Who” will do the combating? Where will the battles be fought, in the RD or overseas? Who will regulate the “Who”? It all is a maze without an outlet. Only thing that is sure is the people will be the one’s paying.

Sooner or later truth is disinterred and the universe will be back from chaos…sooner or later those who use lies and disinformation will be buried…most surely USAID is part of the problem…
