Rubio emphasizes strength of Dominican Republic-US relations

On the occasion of the 181st anniversary of independence, celebrated on February 27, the Secretary of State of the United States, Marco Rubio, highlighted the common agenda between the two countries on issues such as the fight against illegal migration and drug trafficking.

He also said that he hopes to work closely with them on these issues, which will be discussed at the Summit of the Americas.

“We share a dedication to addressing the illegal migration crisis, combating drug trafficking, and fostering a stable and prosperous Western Hemisphere, including through the Caribbean Basin Security Initiative. The United States looks forward to working closely with the Dominican Republic as the host country for the next Summit of the Americas later this year.

On this important day, we reaffirm our vital partnership and celebrate the enduring friendship between our nations,” Rubio said in his message.

The U.S. official also highlighted the strength of bilateral relations and the importance of the Dominican diaspora in the United States.

“On behalf of the United States, I wish to express my warmest congratulations to the people of the Dominican Republic on the 181st anniversary of its independence,” Rubio said.

He indicated that he had the privilege of visiting the Dominican Republic during his first trip as Secretary of State and that the enduring bond between the nations is evidenced by 141 years of bilateral relations and the vibrant Dominican diaspora in the United States.
