Dominican government launches new police patrol model

Santo Domingo.- Minister of the Presidency José Ignacio Paliza announced the launch of a new preventive patrol strategy by the National Police, set to begin on June 2 in the National District and Santo Domingo, and expand to Santiago on June 5. The initiative is part of a pilot program designed to enhance crime prevention and foster stronger connections between law enforcement and the public.

The new model will deploy 1,100 specially trained and equipped officers across 72 key zones, each with defined patrol schedules and specific assignments. The plan emphasizes intelligent, structured, and continuous patrol operations to increase effectiveness.

Officers will be outfitted with modern uniforms, body cameras, non-lethal weapons, and tactical gear to ensure professional responses in various scenarios. Paliza noted that this scalable system could be rolled out nationwide, depending on local security needs. The initiative aims to support ongoing efforts to improve citizen security and reduce crime across the Dominican Republic.
