Attention drivers! These are the intersections where you will no longer be able to turn left

Left turns will be prohibited on some roads after Easter.
Santo Domingo.- The National Institute of Land Transit and Transportation (INTRANT) reported that, as part of the government’s “RD se Mueve” strategy, a ban on left turns will be implemented at several key intersections in Greater Santo Domingo.
The implementation will be carried out in four phases, starting on July 1, and each stage will be evaluated every two weeks to measure its impact.
Phase 1:
- Lope de Vega Avenue with Gustavo Mejía Ricart
- Av. Lope de Vega with Father Fantino Falco
- Lope de Vega Avenue with Max Henríquez Ureña
Phase 2:
- Tiradentes Avenue with Carlos Sánchez
- Tiradentes Avenue with Frank Félix Miranda
- Tiradentes Avenue with Rafael Augusto Sánchez
- Tiradentes Avenue with Roberto Pastoriza
Phase 3:
- Abraham Lincoln Avenue with Andrés Julio Aybar
- Maximo Gomez Avenue with Pedro Livio Cedeno
Phase 4:
- Av. Abraham Lincoln with Av. John F. Kennedy
- Núñez de Cáceres Avenue with 27 de Febrero Avenue
It you think there is chaos now, think again about how the changes are going to affect drivers whose driving habits and routes are hard-coded. Good luck everyone.
What is lacking is Intrant’s offering alternative routes for the disabled left turns.
Adding to the chaos is the miserable lack of and maintenance of road signage. It is hard enough to navigate Santo Domingo, especially in very heavy traffic, when you are traveling and cannot anticipate when to move over to the proper exit lane. It is the when or where to turn at intersections or road forks because of not enough signs, mispositioned signs, poor signs, missing/destroyed signs, obstructed signs (uncut vegetation), rusted signs, faded paint, and so on… that gets people nutty. ¿How many visitors in rental cars leaving Santo Domingo for the airport get lost because way finders, such as arrows or plane images directing to the airport at road forks from Av 27 to Las Americas are none, few, or obscured? Locals know routes, visitors may not know.
¿Wondering how much fuel and peoples time would be saved if signs rescued their days? Time for Intrant and El Presidente to fabricate more signs. Please!
