Immigration operations: more than 1,600 undocumented Haitians detained

The General Directorate of Migration’s (DGM) interdiction units detained 1,691 undocumented Haitians and repatriated another 875, as part of immigration control operations being carried out throughout the country.
The interdiction days, carried out in compliance with the precepts of Law 285-04, which regulates the matter, and its implementing regulations, as well as with full respect for human rights and human dignity, took place in Greater Santo Domingo, where 196 foreigners were apprehended; in Santiago de los Caballeros, 64; and La Vega, 139.
Also, 27 in Mao/Valverde, 21 in Azua, 14 in Barahona, 150 in Dajabón, 198 in Elías Piña, 135 in Jimaní, and 50 in Pedernales. In addition, the Dominican Army detained 453, 151 by the Cesfront, and 93 by the National Police, forces that carry out their operations in coordination with the DGM, as well as the Navy, the Air Force, Ciutran, Digesett, and the Public Ministry, among others.
Coming from the detention centers for foreigners in an irregular situation that the DGM has installed in Haina, Benerito, Santiago, and at the border points, the 665 deportees were handed over to the Haitian immigration authorities by Elías Piña (198), Dajabón (239), Jimaní (178), and Pedernales (50).
These actions by the DGM are part of the national security and immigration order strategies promoted by President Luis Abinader to decisively and fairly address the risks that illegal immigration poses to the security, stability, and well-being of Dominicans.
