Migration Directorate fines 25 companies for hiring undocumented workers
Santo Domingo.- The General Directorate of Migration (DGM) announced it has fined 25 companies for employing undocumented foreign workers, marking what it called a “historic precedent” in enforcing the country’s immigration laws.
According to the DGM, six companies paid the fines voluntarily, five requested reconsideration, two cases are under review by the Superior Administrative Court, and the rest are being processed by relevant authorities. The sanctioned businesses—mainly involved in distributing clothing, appliances, and household goods—face fines ranging from RD$75,000 to RD$450,000.
The agency emphasized that these actions are essential for preserving national security, legal order, and the rights of Dominican citizens. It added that the sanctions aim to support the formal economy, ensure fair labor practices, and curb illegal employment.
Undocumented workers found during inspections were taken to the Haina detention center for processing and deportation.
