Window cleaners caught on video destroying car windows in the National District

Santo Domingo.- A new incident of urban violence has raised alarm among residents of the National District after a man, identified as one of the so-called “window cleaners,” was captured on video breaking the rear window of a vehicle in the middle of a public street.
The incident occurred at the intersection of Máximo Gómez and John F. Kennedy avenues when the driver of the car indicated to the individual that he did not want his windshield cleaned.
The refusal provoked an aggressive reaction from the man, who began shouting insults and, in a fit of rage, used a glass bottle and a rock to break the vehicle’s window.
The video of the incident quickly went viral on social media, raising concerns among drivers traveling through this busy area. So far, the identity and arrest of the assailant have not been confirmed.
This type of situation is nothing new. Similar cases have been reported at the same intersection in previous years, rekindling the debate about the need to regulate the presence of window cleaners on the main avenues of Greater Santo Domingo.
Despite municipal resolutions issued since 2017 to control this practice, the problem persists.
Citizens are demanding concrete actions from the authorities to ensure road safety and prevent such attacks from recurring.
The press “is not spared.”
A Noticias RNN cameraman was injured in the head in 2023 after a window cleaner threw a rock at him while he was taking pictures for a report. This incident occurred this Sunday at the intersection of John F. Kennedy and Máximo Gómez avenues in the National District.
The RNN cameraman was Guary Cuevas, who needed several stitches to close the wound caused by the individual, whose name is still unknown.
According to information obtained, at the time of the incident, the photojournalist was recording the actions of the window cleaners while his fellow journalist interviewed several drivers about the issue.
The RNN Channel 27 team was at the intersection because, this Sunday, the National Police, the National District City Council (ADN), and the Public Prosecutor’s Office reported that they had removed 22 window cleaners from circulation who, through their activities, were harassing drivers who stopped at red lights.
This window cleaner aggression is not uncommon. Best to wave the cleaners off by waving your finger at them while saying you have no change, menudo. Better still, make sure your windows are clean in anticipation.
They will throw a soapy cloth on your window anyway, keeping your windows clean will not prevent them from doing this.
