Abinader welcomes Israel-Hamas peace agreement and commends Trump’s leadership

Santo Domingo.- President Luis Abinader welcomed the peace agreement reached between Israel and Hamas aimed at ending the conflict in Gaza, calling it a “crucial step toward coexistence in the Middle East.” He also congratulated U.S. President Donald Trump for his mediation role and expressed appreciation for the efforts of Qatar and Egypt, which helped facilitate the talks.

Abinader emphasized that the understanding marks a historic milestone for regional stability, coinciding with the second anniversary of the October 7, 2023, attack. He highlighted that the deal offers renewed hope to millions affected by years of violence in the region.

Known as Phase One of the Peace Plan, the accord includes a gradual withdrawal of Israeli forces from Gaza and the release of remaining hostages. The ceasefire, brokered by the United States, will take effect 24 hours after Israel’s formal signing. According to Israeli officials, troops will pull back to the so-called “yellow line,” reducing their control of Gaza from more than 80% to 53% of the territory—a move widely welcomed by the international community.
