Mexico defeats Puerto Rico, set to face Leones del Escogido in Caribbean Series final
México.- Charros de Jalisco from Mexico triumphed 3-1 over Indios de Mayagüez of Puerto Rico in the second semifinal of the 67th Mexicali Caribbean Series, securing their spot in the final against the Dominican Republic. The game, played before over 17,000 fans at the “Nido de los Águilas” stadium, saw brilliant pitching and timely offense from Mexico.
David Antonio Reyes pitched 6 scoreless innings, allowing just 3 hits and striking out 2, earning his second victory of the tournament, both against Puerto Rico. Relievers Jesús Cruz, Stephen Nogosek, and Trevor Clifton, who earned his third save, helped seal the win.
Mexico’s offense came alive in the first inning, with Rudy Martin’s RBI double, followed by hits from Michael Wielansky and Mateo Gil, who drove in two runs. Rudy Martin and Wielansky each hit a double, and Gil had two RBIs.
The win sends Charros de Jalisco to their first-ever Caribbean Series final, after previous finishes in third and fourth place in 2019 and 2022. The final against the Dominican Republic is set for Friday at 7:00 p.m. Mexicali time.
