Dominican Republic bids to host 2027 IOC session

Santo Domingo.- The Dominican Republic has officially submitted a bid to host the International Olympic Committee (IOC) session in 2027. The proposal will be presented this week in Costa Navarino, Greece, by a delegation led by IOC member Luis Mejía Oviedo and Felipe Vicini, chairman of the Steering Committee for the bid.

Endorsed by the Dominican Olympic Committee and its president, Garibaldi Bautista, the bid is among five competing proposals. An IOC commission visited Punta Cana and Santo Domingo in late 2024 to assess the country’s readiness.

If selected, the IOC session would take place in the spring of 2027 at a hotel in Punta Cana. The Dominican delegation will highlight the nation’s strengths as a host during their presentation, ahead of the IOC’s 2026 session in Milan.
