Punta Cana chosen to host 146th IOC Assembly in 2027

Costa Navarino, Greece.- The International Olympic Committee (IOC) has selected Punta Cana, Dominican Republic, to host its 146th Assembly in 2027. The decision was made at the 144th IOC Assembly in Costa Navarino, Greece, following the election of Kirsty Coventry as the new IOC president.

Punta Cana was chosen over other candidates, including the Czech Republic, Montenegro, Jordan, and Saudi Arabia, with 93 votes in favor and 2 against. The evaluation committee deemed the Dominican city the best option based on its proposal and support from the government.

This will mark the first time the IOC Assembly is held in the Dominican Republic and the first time in a Spanish-speaking country since Buenos Aires in 2018. The decision was praised by IOC member Luisín Mejía and Dominican leaders, including Garibaldy Bautista, president of the Dominican Olympic Committee, and Felipe Vicini, head of the organizing committee. The Dominican government has provided all necessary guarantees for the event’s success.
