Officers host tour of UK Navy patrol ship in Dominican port

SD. The Royal Navy River Class Patrol Vessel, HMS Severn paid a working visit to Santo Domingo’s Don Diego Port since Monday, and its commander and officers hosted a tour of the ship’s various areas and detailed its technical capabilities.

UK ambassador Steven Fisher and Severn commanding officer Steven Banfield, Lieutenant Commander of the Royal Navy, headed the onboard changing-of-the-guard ceremony.

Banfield noted that the Severn’s autonomous range is 15,000 miles, and is currently conducting interdiction duties in the Caribbean, jointly with navies of the region including Dominican Republic.

Local personalities, diplomats, government officials, Dominican Navy officers and the media attended the ceremony held Monday night.
